Ask The Flower Girls

Anonymous asked you: Do you like Venus Flytraps?

…Some less than others!

aethertaffyswirl asked you: Sunflowers or broccoli?

Broccoli is yummy, but sunflowers are pretty AND tasty.

Anonymous asked: Do you like Bulbsaur?
Daisy thinks bulbasaur is the best starter!

Can you give your photographer a raise?
“What photographer, we don’t know anything about a photographer…”

">Is this Noel?" Who's "Noel?" Anyway, I look at a lot of artists and something that always comes to mind is: are they trained? And here, I mean "Did they go to school for becoming an artist/a better artist?" I don't think it's wrong if someone went to school or didn't, I'm merely genuinely curious as to if they did or not. If you did, where'd you go? And if you didn't, why didn't you?

>Who’s Noel

Just some artist! There’s no reason to know my name. Anyone asking that was just wondering if I was the same person who posts on the MLPG sometimes.

As for training… this is going to be a bit tl/dr, sorry!

Iii… yes and no. I taught myself how to draw for the most part. I was homeschooled, so there weren’t any highschool classes that I took. Come time to go to college, I didn’t know for sure what I wanted to do, so I went to a nearby community college to goof around and make up my mind. I took some basic animation classes (traditional and maya), and an oil painting class, and drawing I and IV. (I because it was required. IV because the professor made an exception for me because I really, really wanted to take the figure drawing class.) I quickly figured out that while I loved animation and had the patience for it, I would quickly start to hate the world if I were doing it for anyone else and that illustration was where my heart was.

I didn’t go further beyond that, though. My family was(is) poor as all get out, and there was an emergency that happened as I was researching schools to apply to/scholarships. I’d been helping my parents pay their bills since I was 15, and the situation then led me to make the choice to work full time (I already had a regular job as a contracted artist) instead of transferring.

I try to take classes when I can because I really love school environments, but mostly I read a lot of books to educate myself, and do a hell of a lot of things wrong in order to learn better.

It curls.

The girls were prepared for this.

Taking a minute…

…to answer some of the common anon questions directed at me, rather than at one of the girls.

>Is that Noel?
Sure is. Hi there!

>What program do you use?
I use an old intuos 3 (6x8) and photoshop (cs5) when drawing the pictures. I sometimes use OC4.5+, but not often.

>Why the flower girls?
Well, I could have happily made a tumblr for ask any pony you darn well please but that… actually that could have been really fun. I don’t know why I didn’t. Otherwise I think Rose is a pretty pony and could be fun to draw sometimes. I like ask blogs and wanted to take part, and because ask any pony something didn’t occur to me, I thought the flower girls would be the most interesting ponies for me.

>Why you no update/Is this tumblr dead?
Because drawing ponies is neither a chore nor obligation, and no the tumblr isn’t dead. Sometimes I draw other ponies. Sometimes I get busy.

Aaaand thanks for the anon compliments, too. It’s always nice to hear that someone likes the things you do, and I appreciate that you took the time to tell me that.

We can now resume our irregular and unscheduled pony fun.

Tumbleweeds have words in them around here.

That was actually my bandana,” says Daisy. “Lily has a bad habit of borrowing things first, and asking for permission later.”
